Photo Gallery Layout - 10/29/2007 13:11:23
I am using photo gallery slideshow layout for my website and am wondering if anyone knows of a way I can change the layout of the slideshow page. Specifically, I want the thumbnails to run from top to bottom on the left or right of my page, with the larger image appearing beside the thumbnails. Right now the only option is for the thumbnails to be on the top, but I find this makes it necessary to scroll down to see the whole image (this is a photographer's website and he wants his images to appear as large as possible).

photo gallery slideshow-- is that a specific script? I am not familiar with that.

Can you post the code or (preferably) a link to the page in question?

Also (where are my manners?) Welcome!

If I might make a suggestion? Please don't use the FP slide show/photo gallery component. It really only works with IE. In other browsers it's just terrible. I personally use JAlbum but if you search a bit you'll find there are other photo gallery generator packages available.

Thanks for the $.02. I appreciate it! I have heard that my slideshow won't run in Firefox which was another issue I was going to attempt to tackle. I am just a real novice with designing and found the slideshow in FP so easy to use. Plus it was easy to adapt it to the overall look of the site. Some of the others look a little "cartoony" which is a look I don't want, and I'm not sure some of them will seamlessly integrate with my site.
If you want to take a look at what I have so far it is www.mccabephotos.com

Thanks again

I did, you have some interesting stuff there. Regretfully I use FF as my primary browser so your slide show comes across as very wide. :) With a little effort (getting your hands into the code) it's actually pretty easy to integrate a JAlbum gallery into your site and if you look at the assortment of skins that are available I think you can avoid that cheesy "cartoon" look too.:)

Yes, when using FF you have to scroll 20 inches or so to see the show. Not acceptable.

I have the same problem with my photo gallery, it shows fine in IE but not in Firefox or Navigator. The page in question is http://www.paulaspetphotography.com/photogallerychristmas1.htm. I have downloaded JAlbum, added my images, and now I have to figure out how to add them to the webpage. Any help would be appreciated.

I know most of us don't like to pay for software if we can avoid it. I needed something to incorporate photos into sites easily. After looking around at software (including JAlbum), I settled on Shozam. The main reason it was designed was for photographers to easily showcase their work. I am definitely not a photographer but it worked for my situation.

It comes with standard themes but the Advanced version allows editing of themes to create your own. I chose the Business version to meet the license requirements for placing it on multiple url's. This version includes the theme editor and also allows placement of HTML above and below the gallery. You can add audio and video to a gallery plus utilize a PayPal function.

I created the gallery below for my 40th class reunion. The gallery was zipped and a link was provided for classmates to download and save it to their computer so they can view it any time they want.

Below are some military themed galleries I created. Some have audio and video added.

It may not be for everyone but it is fairly easy to use and builds galleries quickly. I do like the feature of including multiple albums within a gallery and adding a new album is a breeze.

Thank you, Rangler. I downloaded the free trial to check it out, I wish they had a filmstrip version (they have one but its vertical vs horizontal. I tried out a couple of photos to see how they would look at the larger image cuts them in 1/2 because they are portrait vs landscape. I also need to figure out how to put them into my frontpage webpage.

After trying several slide show programs and methods, I have settled on google's Picassa, it's free and does a whole bunch of other good things as well. Many options for displaying slide shows. I used it on my galleries at http://www.oregonrockart.com if you want to check the way I used it. Good luck.

Is there a way you could get rid of that Picasa ad on each gallery page. On some pages it is cut in half and is somewhat distracting.

Very good photos of petroglyphs however. Did you take them?

Thanks for the kudos Don. Yes, my friend LeeAnn and I took them. As for the logo, I consider it a small price to pay for the ease with which the program allows me to build the galleries.

TalkingEarth, you might want to consider JAlbum... it's free as well..... and no adds at all.... :)
