greedy_b -> Browser Preview is showing code. Help! (11/6/2007 16:30:41)

Hi all,

I've been managing a website for a while now without any problems. I've recently changed computers, installed EW and updated the site without a hitch. Then halfway through some minor alterations I started getting this error pop up when I selected a browser preview:

'this page may contain dynamic content that requires a web server in order to be previewed correctly'

Since then, the home page displays itself in HTML only, the other pages seem to be working fine.

The site has been made using an EW .dwt template.

I'm new to this forum and would like to say thanks in advance for any help I receive

Hi and Welcome to OutFront.

What code is showing specifically and is your file name extension appropriate? For instance, if you have ASP code on a .HTML page, the code will display and not parse / process.

That help any?

Would you by any chance in your minor alterations perform a copy and paste in EW?

You may want to try paste into Notepad first then copy again and paste into EW.

Hi and thanks for your feedback,

Sorry I haven't been home so haven't yet been able to show what code is showing, but I think you might have cracked it rdouglass...

The only change I made was a change in CSS style of one of the headers, then the browser preview wouldn't work. I remember now that although the site had been designed as a HTML site, the web host's homepage had an .asp extension, so my homepage had to be changed to .asp to replace it (this despite 1&1's help files saying that .html would be fine, I had to dig around to find that there's a pecking order and .asp comes first)

So- I imagine the problem will be that because of this, ASP code will have been inserted causing the error.

I'll test later and report,

Thanks again

Any time you get that message it means there is some code on there which needs a server to parse it and execute it. It can be ASP or PHP or others.
