OK here goes,

summary

I have a domain, xyz.co.uk, for which I host (via dedicated server) the website, and the email is hosted by BT (aarrgh) - clients request.

I have created a webform which sends email to recipient and to admin@xyz.co.uk

If i send message (using this form) to me (my emails hosted on my dedicated server too) then i receive it (as the recipient) but admin@xyz.co.uk doesn't get anything - not even an error message.

I have disabled mail relaying on the deicated server for obvious reasons.

i am using the standard CDONTS form. My gut feel is that as the sending email address does not reside on the server it does not go out - does that make sense? If so how do i resolve this please and why do i receive teh email as the recipient?


I have now received an error message 
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email
server.  Please contact your system administrator.
    <myserver.co.uk #5.5.0 smtp;551 Bad Recipient>

Do you have an SPF record set up? If the recipient email's server checking for potential problems in the email?

Yes, you should :)

If you are on a *NIX server - check out Open SPF. On a MS server, check out Sender ID Framework SPF Record Wizard. The only reason I make the separation, years ago when I was on the Open SPF record website and it generated an SPF record - it had quotes around it. However, when I copied everything to my DNS server, the quotes were not valid. I do not know if it still gives the quotes or if the quotes are valid on a *NIX server. I know on the MS site, it gives me what I need and how I need it.
