Sending mail from website problem - 11/9/2007 11:30:31
OK here goes, summary I have a domain, xyz.co.uk, for which I host (via dedicated server) the website, and the email is hosted by BT (aarrgh) - clients request. I have created a webform which sends email to recipient and to admin@xyz.co.uk If i send message (using this form) to me (my emails hosted on my dedicated server too) then i receive it (as the recipient) but admin@xyz.co.uk doesn't get anything - not even an error message. I have disabled mail relaying on the deicated server for obvious reasons. i am using the standard CDONTS form. My gut feel is that as the sending email address does not reside on the server it does not go out - does that make sense? If so how do i resolve this please and why do i receive teh email as the recipient? I have now received an error message
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email
server. Please contact your system administrator.

Do you have an SPF record set up? If the recipient email's server checking for potential problems in the email?

Yes, you should :) If you are on a *NIX server - check out Open SPF. On a MS server, check out Sender ID Framework SPF Record Wizard. The only reason I make the separation, years ago when I was on the Open SPF record website and it generated an SPF record - it had quotes around it. However, when I copied everything to my DNS server, the quotes were not valid. I do not know if it still gives the quotes or if the quotes are valid on a *NIX server. I know on the MS site, it gives me what I need and how I need it.
