If it is empty, chances are the image is too tiny to see, or it might be blending in with the white background.

When I click on that image, I see something very tall on the left side of the window. Look closely :)

Even with my impeccable vision I can see nothing!! Doh! I don't know, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall and watched how he did all this! To me it is SOoooooooo perfect.

Its there, about 5mm from the left outermost of the browser.

Drag your mouse over that area and you'll see something is highlighted. If totally empty, then there'll be no highighting.

I feel like an idiot!

I honestly have a blank page William. I scroll my mouse over everything, everywhere, and there is nothing! Maybe it is my browser (Firefox), maybe it is my resolution, I don't know. I cannot access anything.

Nonetheless, I ended up going to the original source and copying all of the images from that:
http://www.freecsstemplates.org/preview/unknown
When I inserted the image as a background it was fine, however, it did not have the transparency as your's did, jurgen.

Honestly, if you don't mind, I would like to give you my ftp link/username/password so you can just upload the whole thing yourself, then I can import it from there (if you would be willing)! :)Cause honestly, however interesting it is, I cannot seem to emulate what you did jurgen. And as far as I'm concerned, what you did is perfect!

I find it difficult to believe you are an idiot:)

Prove to me with a screenshot if you insist you are.

Yes I confirm in FF the image does not display as in IE.

However, if I turn off javascript in FF, the image displays.

The image is there. Just 2 pixels wide but 600 some px high. Yes, it is hard to see but that is the image what will make up the colored background.

Isn't css great? ..... hehehehehe just kiddin'

Blimey this thread's been busy overnight!

Just to add that my example was very very simple deliberately. All the pretty stuff is up to you to add yourself.

But the concept and appearance was just what I needed. Thanks for contributing!
I am aware you can do whatever you want (to the appearance), but I just don't know how to do it! I'm just so used to telling FP2003 "add button," "change theme," and boom, it's there. I'm sure you guys just import a JPEG into your Image folder, then go to your code and type some incomprehensible words and wala, it magically appears!
I figured the painless way would be to just find a template. :)Anyways, jurgen has been of great help!

Well, I worked on it today and came up with this.
www.deveryharpermusic.com
I am MUUUUCCHH happier with the layout. It is clean, it is easy to navigate, it communicates what I want to any passer by. I just have a few tweaks I need to do with the Media Player (song order and skin--I e-mailed the company) and whatever else needs updating.

That seems to work well.

Couple of small points - you've got a lot of this going on:

alt="#"

in your image tags - you don't want to do that. If it's an informational image then the alt text should act as an alternative for the image should it be unavailable or should the person reading the page not be using a visual browser. If the image is non-informational (just for pretty) then it should be alt="" so that screenreaders will ignore the image all together.

Other thing is that although the template has a strict doctype it's got a load of inline formatting like align="left" which is strictly speaking incorrect.

But that's just me being fussy!

RE: CSS 101 anyone? - 11/12/2007 15:59:04
Jurgen, if you go to my site, when you click on the first three links, the "paramaters" (I don't know a better word? the box?) are fixed and the same. When you click on the 4th link (purchase music) you will see a "shift" and the box seems to grow. Then, another shift if you click on link 5 (My studio). Do you see what I mean?

What is this caused from? Is there anyway I can do something to the code to make it seem like it is fixed (horizontally that is--I don't care about vertically because that needs to be flexible with the material), so it doesn't move?

Also, here:
http://www.deveryharpermusic.com/evoluzione.htm

This is where the Media Player is imbedded. You will notice that this is missing the original tail.css definitions/border/dark blue thingy that is on the rest of the pages. When I look at FP2003 I can see it, just not when I publish it. Any suggestions with this?

I think Spanky did actually pretty good for not necessarily knowing what it is all about. :)

Spanky, now you have to learn why we actually have this css file. In there you will do all the styling, sizing, coloring of the fonts and much more. No need to have that stuff in the actual page as Tail stated.

You could also use a couple of "unordered list". The background needs to be tweaked for longer pages. You have no description and keyword tags in your header. The robots.txt file is missing. Still lots to do.... You are not done yet.... :)

Ok - in your image tags you've got alt="#' which should be changed. Either just typed in directly to the code or there's probably a way to do it via FP (I don't use it so I'm not sure how).

What alt attributes are meant for is to provide an alternative to the image itself if the image is either missing, images switched off by the user or if the user isn't using a normal visual browser.

For example - say you've got a user who uses a screenreader rather than a normal browser - the screenreader would read out that there's an image and then read out what the alt attribute says. So you really want to make it something useful.

Now sometimes you really don't want to bother people with this information if the image isn't actually informational - maybe it's just there to look pretty, or maybe it's purpose is blindingly obvious such as if the image actually has a caption. In that case you want to use a blank alt attribute such as alt="" That way, a screenreader just bypasses the image all together without mentioning it. If you leave off the alt attribute all together then the screenreader will say that there's an image... but that's it - so could be a bit frustrating.

So the rule generally would be - informational images should have a useful alt text that would basically do the same job as the image or if it's non-informational then an empty alt attribute is called for.

Are you still awake...? Facinating isn't it? (not)

Hey guys, thanks for the input. Right now I am focusing on that Media Player. I got the songs in order (even though I had to do a A-M list) finally, now I need to change the skin on it. Then, I will do all those little things that drive you guys mad!!! :)
I know I have a long ways to go! I'll get there. If it wasn't for having the day off I wouldn't have gotten this far!

Spanky is a nickname I have had since a little boy. He is the "Little Rascals" character, I guess I reminded people of him or something. I've just kept it all my life!
