Changes to IE ActiveX Update - 11/12/2007 13:42:20
As many of you know, users of all browsers except Firefox have had to "click to activate" Flash elements for well over a year now. Well MS will be changing IE's behaviour from the end of the year to remove this issue. http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2007/11/08/ie-automatic-component-activation-changes-to-ie-activex-update.aspx Personally I'll still be using either the UFO method or SWFobject to implement any Flash elements for two reasons: 1. Because all other browsers apart from IE and Firefox will still have the issue - presumably until they too issue patches. 2. I like the Javascript implementation - less mess on the markup page, no embed versus object issues - just neater and cleaner all round. Obviously an alternative has to be offered for those without JS but then and alternative should be offered for those without Flash anyway so that's not much of an issue.
