JohnLearner -> Matching just one colour (HEX needed) (11/15/2007 12:03:39)

Does software exist that can find an approximate HEX code for a colour on-screen? Difficult to explain, but I need to recreate the mauvey-type colour in the image here. I can do it by trial and error, but I'm not finding it easy. Any ideas, plz?

Hi John

I use a colour tester Firefox plugin called colorzilla. That burgundy colour doesn't come out as a single shade (it changes as you move the tester around the graphic) - but #823559 is one of the shades.

How do you do it, Tailslide? Well done - that's exactly what I needed. You have great knowledge.

By trial & error and sheer luck, I arrived at #7E1648 - it's brighter than #823559 and looks quite good, but #823559 is definitely very close.

That's a great little tool and very sensitive - it gives a reading for each pixel, I suppose, and I know the image doesn't have a uniform colour.

Thanks for your help,

John. [;)]

...and then of course there's always the many many colour tools listed on probably the greatest colour tool list on the web [;)]

Speaking of which, I've found another one to add! [:D]

That's because the image source was probably a compressed file type such as JPEG resulting in pixel variations. I tried two values in Photoshop yielding 0x83345C and 0x853358 using 3x3 averaging. Values very close to yours.
