Uploading/downloading help - 12/4/2001 16:11:14
First let me explain what I need then someone smarter than me can tell me I hope. I run an online racing league and everyone has individual car files that they make. I need them to be able to upload them on site, so that they will go into a list, so others can download them off site. I know its possible, but no clue how or what program to use to do this. I would like it as close to 100% automated as possible. Thanks in advance. I have asp enabled on this website if it helps.Doing this manually is becoming an overwhelming job. I use FP2000, but my other webmaster uses FP 2002. Thanks in advance Kim

I would do this using a database. Make a table for each racing team and create a form for them to upload their stats. Other users could do a simple search by name, team, points standing, or whatever else you might need. See spooky's step by step tutorial on this site for a simple database tutorial. Scratch that last one - Are these actual files for a racing game or the like ? You will have to find out from your hosting company what uploading "COM" they use. These are preinstalled by your host and available for youu to use. If you run into a snag - let us know what upload you have available since they each have their own methods of implementation. Heres an example and tutorial from an upload "COM" used by one of our hosting providers called SA-FileUp™ (http://www.halfpricehosting.com/support/s_safileup.asp) Here's another - ASP Simple Upload - (http://www.asphelp.com/ASPSimpleUpload/Default.Asp) By looking at the sample code of these two, you might get an idea of the project's scope at least. Yes, the actual file I upload my car file, then everyone else can go download it to install in their game. The file itself doesn't need to be secure, it doesn't matter who on the net wants a copy of my car file lol Kim Kim Vodicka
