Okay, I may or may not be in the right forum, but here goes anyway. I'll try to be brief. I just installed IIS according to the 'razorx' tutorial. Install seems to have gone fine, however, when going to 127.0.0.1 in the browser, I'm being prompted for a uid and password. Where do I set that up, and how?

Sheesh.

Typically it applies root permissions which would be a windows administrator login.
Generally you would create a sub folder / sub web and not do development in the root anyway

Hi Spooky,

I think I understand what you're saying.....here's what I don't get though. I haven't done any development yet, just trying to get into the browser for the first time. I'm using IE, nothing fancy.

Do I need to publish something to this new "server" before I can see anything. Or is my whole take on this incorrect? Gawd, I've been away from all this too long. It's taking a while to recall terminology, etc.

Is there an "IIS for Dummies" book out there?

Somewhere out there there is Bill. Have you tried opening your site and publishing it to your "new server"? You should see an option to publish to your computers name (D3Z4ZW81??).

Well, I went to FP to see where this option is and couldn't readily find one. I guess I've been publishing to one site for so long, it's locked in......[;)]

Open your site in FP, click the Remote Website tab then at the top select Remote Website Properties. You will be able to browse to your computer name from there and publish to it as usual.

Thanks, CAZ. I'm dancing a little jig, as we speak. After a good night's sleep, I went to these tutorials, followed some instructions, typed in "localhost", and voila, I'm in the welcome to IIS, localhost/localstart.asp page. No prompt for UID/PW this time.

Why? I have no idea.

Now. I'm presuming I have no website out there other than some automatically installed default site. The question is, how to I publish the website I have on the internet, to the IIS server? Can I publish straight from the internet? Or, how do I do it from FP?

I swear, I'm on the cusp of some new personal discovery, and I'm feeling like I'm 10 years old again....[:D]

Moving right along, and after a little reading, I'm going to try to publish my internet website to the IIS local host. So when I do, am I going to publish to http://localhost/mywebsite?

I realize how simple-minded this question must sound, but hey, you're dealing with an aging, simple mind....[:)]

Try it and see Bill, Fp might ask if it should create a frontpage web on there and if so say yes.

I'm feeling like a cross between a little kid making new discoveries and an impatient, can't-wait-for-anything-old-man. [:)]

Here's what I've discovered: I copied all the files from my local (my PC) directory, into inetpub/wwwroot. Then, when I get into my browser (IE 7) and enter http://d3z4zw81/index.htm I get my website sans a few functions. However I'm able to navigate a bit.

Is that number (d3z4zw81) some specific number related to my PC, or is it some generic designation that everyone gets?

MYGAWD, there's a buttload of info to wade through here, but I am making some level of progress....but it's painfully slow.

Thanks everyone, for your help and support so far... I'm not where I want to be yet, so I'll need more hand-holding.....[:D]

Thanks Mike, I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure.

Looks like I might have to reinstall IIS. I don't think FP extensions were installed the first time.

Reinstalled IIS, got my site running on my PC. This part of the "journey" is past. Now on to getting the Spooky Login working.

Woohoo....
