tip for clearer type and smaller images/favicons - 11/20/2007 17:03:05
if you find that your anti-aliasing can look a bit dirty, especially for small type or favicons, etc then you can: - make the original x4 as large as the target size (assuming everything is vector/type) - export that as a lossless bitmap e.g. tiff, bmp, png24 - then open up that bitmap and resize it to 25% percent (which should be a pretty clean resize in itself without needing any unsharp mask) so in effect reducing the effect of the anti-aliasing or thereabouts and resulting in a nice clean image/type. works well for favicons that can be a bugger when you only have 16x16 px to play with ;) (idea adapted from a technique for type clarity posted on the adobe fireworks forum, can't remember by whom, sorry. works in just about any image editor)
