in excel in some cells the numbers eg 400000 appear with a pound or euro sign, when I go to delete it this disappears and re-appear when I go to other cell , well what to do to delete these signs and left only the number ?

Have you tried to increase the width of the cell?

Hilite area to be changed, then >>Format>>Cells - Select either General (which has no specif number format) or Number (which gives you numerous choices including the comma separtor option).
