Ah well, never mind. Billy boy and his mates might get it right somewhere around IE170...IF we're lucky....:)

Not a great surprise really.

I find myself trying to almost defend IE7 as being at least, better than it's predecessors but that's really like defending someone who mugs you with a knife with "at least they didn't have a gun!"

All I can say is that I've been using CSS layouts for 4 years and I'm BORED. I'm bored sick of having to add extra markup or style rules or even scripts to make up for the shortcomings various versions of IE. I'm bored stiff of having to limit what I use to the lowest common denominator for the same reason. I'm bored of dealing with Haslayout, 3px shift, 1px shift, double margin bug, incorrect hover behaviour, expanding containers, dodgy backgrounds, invalid scripting to get max/min-width to work, jumping links, disappearing text, duplicated text, buggered zoom, lack of XHTML support... I can't be bothered to go on - you get the idea.

Yes IE7 is better than IE6 - but it's not nearly good enough, it's not close to Firefox and not even in the same city as Opera. Until they dump Trident I don't think they stand a chance. The longer they go on with the bare minimum of improvements - the longer we all have to hack, script and add extra markup - IE6 will be with us for at least another 5 years .

They will never get it straight. Why would they? As long as IE is still the main browser out there in the world we guys have just no other choice than to "tweak" for IE. It's a pain in the butt. Yes, the market share is falling but it will take another "generation" to make it right...

Just my 2 cents.....

I agree they don't have much incentive to fix it. And they've got their own brand of XML too so even with the advancement of online apps and XML they probably won't bother much.
