Hi- I'm new here and am hoping you can help!
I have agreed to help a friend with his website. The site is up and running ( no problem there) but whoever designed the site did not include any keywords. needless to say, the site rarely comes up in the top ten. Search engine subsmission is done, but being a network guy i am unsure as to how to go about adding keywords to his site. It was created in Front Page.
I have done some reading but am getting confused and he needs this done asap.
Can anyone give me a helping hand?

The biggest thing you want to have, are keywords throughout your page (inside the paragraphs of your website).

If you open the site in FP using design view for the page you want to add the keywords to, you need to right-click within the design view area, and go to page properties. It will be listed somewhere under "Keywords". Just enter each keyword, separated by a comma.

Keywords aren't really used much by the major search engines anymore... it is much better to spend time obtaining quality backlinks.

If you look at the frontpagewebmaster.com site, it doesn't even have meta keywords listed, yet it is on the first page of Google...

if keywords aren't used much why bother ?

What do i need to do to insure his website comes up when his clients are searching for terms used in the web page?

I'm confused

SEO/SEM is a lot more than just putting up some decent keyword meta tags.

A part of successful search engine optimisation of web pages is working out what keywords your prospective visitors might type in to a search engine to find your site. A good web page contains information that people are looking for. When you write the page you need to take a step back and think about what search terms or keywords people would enter to find it. Once you have determined those keywords, you need to narrow them down to 3 to 5 main words. Then you can start to write the page, keeping these words in mind while you develop the content.
