Toshiba Laptop Wireless Issues - 11/29/2007 16:51:03
I have a Toshiba M110 Laptop and a Netgear WGR614v6 router.

When I first bought the Laptop and set up the wireless network, everything worked fine. After a few weeks, I turned on the laptop and it said that it could not connect to the wireless network.

I tried everything I could to re-connect it, such as using the wireless network setup wizard, deleting and then setting up the connection again and using the connectivity doctor (useless) - but to no avail. I eventually resorted to a system restore and everything was good again...

Or so I thought. This same problem came up time and time again - not connecting to the wireless network all of a sudden. So after a dozen cycles of system restoring, I thought this would have to be my solution.

Only a few days ago, I had this problem again. This time, no matter where I restored to, it wouldn't work. In frustration, I decided to use the recovery disc to bring it back to it's original state.

This didn't work... It still won't connect to the wireless network.

So, my questions are:

1. Why does this happen?
2. How can I fix it and make sure it won't happen again?

Thank you in advance for anything you can provide.
Nick

If you have any type of security, WEP, WPA or WPA2 turn it off and try again. Only thing I can think to try at this point.

Try turning your router off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. See if you can connect. I have the same problem and this is my work around.

Two thoughts: (1) turn-off your firewall and, (2) reinter the 10 digit WEP-Open Authentication Encryption Key.

As to #2, my laptop explicably keeps dropping the Key - tech support doesn't know why :) What a pain - I could write a book :)

Sometimes a cordless phone nearby can cause dropouts.
