Problem with files only displaying code view - 11/30/2007 2:25:28
I just got started on EW (trial version) and was making good progress. I'm a rank beginner with a couple of reference books. Anyhow, suddenly, files which were fine are only showing in code view. The little design/split/code tabs at the bottom of the page are gone and the Page button doesn't give a choice to change views. I'm stumped. I can't do anything without design or split view. Help please.

Thanks for answering. I have not gotten rid of Internet Explorer, in fact, I can look at the bad pages in explorer and they look fine. I just can't get to a design or split view to work on them in EW. I was able to create a new page from a bad (code view only) page and the new page was able to be viewed in design/split/ or code just like normal. Am I crazy, hallucinating, or just missing some little obvious thing everyone else knows about? Thanks

Are you able to go to View>Page and then select Design, Split, or Code from the menu?

When I go to the View, Page tab, my only option is Code. I tried making a copy of the site and none of the new pages could be viewed in design or split either. I've been pouring over a couple of reference books, Expression Web for Dummies and Using Microsoft Expression Web by Jim Cheshire. Neither seems to have any reference to a problem like this. I also have created a new blank web site from a EW template and I can't view any of it in design or split either. Since I don't know code, I'm stopped cold and can't figure out any way to go forward. Thanks

Kinda sounds like your copy of EW got corrupted somehow. Try downloading another trial version.

Have you activated your Trial EW? You need to activate it, even if its a trial version.
