Joe Hussar -> Registry Repair software (12/2/2007 6:15:57)

Hi

I am having a problem installing a firewall (Zone Alarm Pro)

I get this error message that pops up (I have Windows XP)

"Could not locate the DLL library \vsutil.dll (VSetProtection) The specified procedure could not be found"

After researching it I think installing "Registry Repair" software is what I need.

Can anyone give me a recommendation as to what is the best registry fix software?

I've tried downloading trial versions but they hugely different results so I have no idea how to choose. (& you can't fix them till you buy the license)

Registry Fix found 447 errors.
Registry Easy found 1204 errors.

I suspect most of the "errors" are minor clutter at best ..............

Thanks!

Joe Hussar

I wouldn't trust any of those registry cleaners. Uninstall ZA, then restart, then reinstall it.

Have you installed ZA prior to this?

Hi and thanks for advise.............

No I don't have a prior version installed - I have Zone Alarm Pro

I tried Zone Alarm for help but they have effectively made it all but impossible to ask a question - their web site directs you to FAQ's or a Forum but the only way to ask a question is toi pay for it ............... and after paying for the software I have a problem with paying again..............

I'll try it again as you suggest.

Bobby doubtless has all good reasons not to trust registry cleaners, but I'm sold on Registry Mechanic 7.0 offered by PCTools. Check it out here

A typical single pass develops 150-200 entries requiring correction of which at least 95% are "minor clutter" (usually empty registry keys). BUT Registry Mechanic certainly has caught some real system/software killers which begs the question "Am I better off, yes or no, with Registry Mechanic?" Oh, yeah.

Glad 2b a RM user [;)]

I have used RegSupreme for a couple of years now and it has worked very well - especially for cleaning up after software installs - not to mention MS updates! It's not free but it costs peanuts.

I'll echo Larry's response. I don't know if it's what you need, but Registry Mechanic once pulled my fat out of the fire during a particularly nasty security software suite crash.
