Importing files from a server to Frontpage. - 12/2/2007 13:30:59
Hey everyone. I recently re-loaded FP onto a different system. I open FP choose import, I choose from site, then try to two common ones I would normally use, its been forever since I have had to do this, I am choosing ( File System ) then ( FTP) the the ( HTTP ). Ok it just keeps opening everything up into the Website Remote properites, can can get the files in here and work with them in here, but I want them all loade back into my FP on this computer, or esle the changes are immediate in the Website Remote properties, I want the files loaded in FP and my discretion and when I choose to publish files. I have burned a copy onto a disk but for the life of me cant figure out why the CD will not work in the other 2 computers, otherwise I would copy from the CD. Thats another story going on with the Pc's. Anyhoo, ya I just need all the files from my server onto Frontpage and for the life of me they wont load, I have talked to the server and they dont know how either, some good they are. I did do this twice before but iether something has changed or I am missing something, can anyone help? Thank you... Been working on this and cells 3 whole days now, but I need FP in my room and on my computer. Thank you again. Sherri

Importing, as you've found out, won't work - all FrontPage files must be published up and down as appropriate. In this instance, follow the Publish Down steps below: (1) In FrontPage, open your server files by clicking File >>Open, (2) Browse to “My Network Places” (3) In the File Name field type the complete web site address, for example: " http://www.yourwebsite.com", (4) Enter your username & password when prompted, (5) Once the server files open in FrontPage click File >> Publish Site and, (6) For the address to publish, enter a destination on your hard drive, for example: C:\My Documents\My Webs\mysite. (Note: if the location doesn’t exist on your hard drive, you will be prompted to “Create? Yes or No”. Answer Yes.) Last step: Republish to Host Overwriting all Files - Site will then be “In Step”

You are right Larry, I did find this out, finally after arguing with MS about using my FP on another pc, I was able to load the files, although, its as you say, I may have to overwrite all existing files in oder to even up-load them, presently getting the error 505, tis ok I am to switch servers soon. No worries for now, I am fixing the pages then sending them by mail to my other pc, using the code, doing a copy and paste, works like majic. I am to tighten up these cells even more as to a veiwer with 600 by 800 resolution can enjoy...is my hope. On it two days now, so hopefully by the weekend it will be looking a bit more spiff. Thank you for your help, for all of you help. Sherri
