I having two clients who want to make money by having an info site for particular industries and hope to sell ad space. problem is neither really has an idea of how to sell ad space or generate that type of ad based revenue. Can't say I have done that either.

What is your all's experience? I can't imagine things like adwords really generates anything significant. Are their any studies, tutorials, info etc on actually making this work?

thanks

Google for it. It's a big subject and everyone has different opinions as to what works and what doesn't.

Adsense is very significant for me. You need some fairly strong traffic, however.

I recommended adsense to a design client soon after it came out. He called me a few months later to tell me the first check he received was over $10,000. I started using it here about 90 seconds after that.

In all honesty, I have recommended it to others who have made basically nothing.

If your traffic is pretty strong and your subject content happens to call the right ads (highly competitive keywords of strong interest to the audience) then you can do VERY well.

Traffic is the bottom line no matter how you go about selling and serving ads, however. If you're measuring traffic in the hundreds of page views per day then I don't think you're ready to sell ads.

Here is a service that I toyed with for a while. I decided it wouldn't make enough of a difference (in my case) to change the way I'm doing ads, but I think the concept makes a lot of sense.
