had a quick search on the forum but didn't find anything... anyone got any links for simple SEO - at least the basics for a beginner?

I believe that seo should always be done by a professional. there is a lot of things that go into seo. But if you are looking for a place where you can learn the basics of seo. Just do a search on google or visit websites like seochat.com, they have some good tutorials

The big forums are a good place to start. They generally have enough solid people that any real garbage is identified for what it is... but not always.

Any information that is blogged about or posted on a forum is going to be beginner/simple to intermediate. Here are a few places to start:
