You forum posters aren't ruff enuff!!
Some of these sites are not up to snuff!!

Maybe mine isn't either! check it out:: www.diamond-buyer-guide.com

Here is my problem:
1- it's new and I am not google PR'ed but I am getting there
2- I get a lot of internal searches and click throughs etc ... but conversions and sign ups etc are almost non existent.

basically is this site too difficult to understand?? did I stuff it with too much stuff?

remember be ruff!! I can take it because i like it that way!

Well we try, most of the time anyway, to be polite. [:D]

Your site is very clean and professional but I think there's a bit too much on that home page. I found I wasn't sure where to look first.

I think I'd try maybe reducing some of the stuff to links which then open up further info if clicked so for example

Under "Easy as 1 -2 -3", Learn the diamond basics and the other two would just be a clickable link.

I'm also not mad on the two boxes on the right for online jewellers and coupons. They make the page look more cluttered and you have a separate page for them anyway which is linked via the menu. Trust your visitors to find what they need, don't throw it in their face. You're after class here. I'd rather see some clear space possibly with the graphic of the woman fading out into it.

Technically, (I'll say it before Tailslide does) you have no Doctype so the browsers handle the site in quirks mode, and there are a number of HTML errors which could easily be rectified such as no alt on the images.

Also I am getting some horizontal scrolling on my 800 res monitor. It cuts off the pretty girl on the right.

I agree with Jaybee - there just seems to be too much going on, it's difficult to know what to look at first and the eye tends to get a bit lost. I think maybe either looking at having different sections being in different colours (not a big palatte - even just shades of grey) to differentiate them - or spread the sections out a bit vertically.

Also, many of the area break when I increase the text size, presumably because you've set heights for different sections.

edit: just plugging Diamond into Google I came across this site: http://www.bluenile.co.uk/?gclid=CKv4rMjiopACFQdhMAod90CHog which certainly isn't perfect but they seem to present quite a lot of information well - each section is differentiated from the next.

Thanks Jaybee,

No need to be polite if you are actually trying to give a critique ... treat this as a schoolyard play ground [:D]

Anyway you are right i was hoping you weren't, the page is cluttered, but the page was uncluttered a while back and no click throughs to other pages, at least now I am getting click throughs

Yes I do have a separate page... but you would be amazed that many visitors won't know that if I just left a link or a menu option ... Unfortunately my visitors are the type you have to hit over the head ... I think as a solution I can make those boxes smaller

If you think this page is crazy cluttered ... check out the jeweler guide > www.diamond-buyer-guide.com/jewelerguide.htm

Thats where I get click throughs to pages outside my site

Good stuff ... I will try a rebuild soon

Yes you are right and it should, the previous version of this page was set for 800 resolution but I didn't get quality clicks so I changed .... sorry man [:)]

Yeah I didn't notice that... I will fix it to be absolute text size

Yeah I know their site is cleaner, but I have no product to sell like they do. i.e. no pretty pictures available to me on the cheap. Plus they get 1000 times more hits to their page than I do so they can afford to be better looking with out the hard sell.

Very Good stuff, like I mentioned to Jaybee I will keep it in mind for an updated page

William Lee -> RE: Review my site -- I want you guys to be ruff as possible --- yeeehaw (12/13/2007 0:58:05)

Somehow I feel you're being let down by the graphics of the website.
There is more glitter in the girl's eyes and more gloss on her lips than there are from the diamonds.

The diamond on the top-left ring looks so pale compared to the metal that holds it.

In my opinion, I think a non-light color background will do better justice to the diamonds.

that's true ;)

As far as images goes - go to http://www.istockphoto.com and plug in Diamond or Diamond ring - images cost around $2 each. Lots of pretty pictures there.

hehe where do you think I got those diamond rings from .. narrowed down from over a dozen ... ehh can't get much for two bucks plus i had to make them less red in hue .. probably why those diamonds dont sparkle

dont get me wrong istock has some nice stuff ... i have found some outrageously cheap photos from istock ... plus its sometimes better than getty and fotosearch

d a v e -> RE: Review my site -- I want you guys to be ruff as possible --- yeeehaw (12/13/2007 3:20:20)

as william said it's not so much the images as the contrast between them adn the background: when you see diamonds in a jewellers shop they are always set against dark velvet.

have you tried a dark background to match that of the lady?
also adding a little sparkly star (a subtle one) can provide a certain sparkle that might be looking for

you know what? I never realized that you are the supreme overlord ... that's an awesome title! [:)]

Ahh you guys want the sparkle ... yeah that would be better ... it had sparkle but the platinum part was kinda red , I guess I edited the sparkle out ***ooops [:-]

Yeah tried dark backgrounds ... it just didn't look clean ... but thanks for the suggestion

I am going to post another site I made and I posted on another forum .... I am getting a lot of shit about it but they are snobby are pick at my lack of technical proficiency which I do lack

so I thought why not let you guys have a go www.clearskinguide.net
