MM-FW MX 2004: export preview checkboxes (jpg) + Smooth... - 12/12/2007 8:43:21
>> What is best, "export preview" to setup for 600x450 photos jpg of an online Photo store ? I use FIREWORKS MX 2004. ----------------------------------- I have setup "No smoothing" , checked:"Sharpen color edges", unchecked:"Progressive browser display", matte: white , well these settings are correct, about, for photos 700x500 or 600x450 of an online Photo store ?

depends on the photo ;) but those seem ok to me. you can see in your preview window what they look like compared to the original and what the exported filesize is like. what percentage setting are you using for optimisation ?

percentage setting-Quality(you mean "Quality", aren't you?) I use is what ever appears firstly when I open export preview window ... If I choose more i will get better quality or the same as for first appeared Quality ?

the higher the percentage, the higher the quality; roughly speaking 80-85% is high quality, 70-79% is medium, and less than that is lower. i usually start at around say 75 and then go lower until the image degrades too much, then back up a bit. you can also use the 4-up view to view the original and 3 previews, for example at 70%,75% and 80%. depending on how sharp your image anyway then you can try without the 'sharpen jpeg edges' which saves you some filesize and may even look better. it's all a matter of experimentation :)

if you're opening a jpeg in fireworks (say it's from a camera or you only have a jpeg) and want to maintain as much quality as possible then choose 100%. of course you will lose a little quality because exporting a jpeg from an image previously saved as a jpeg means you're losing more information, but choosing a setting of 100% or say 85-90% means the amount you lose will be mininmal. Of course, you will end up with quite a large filesize

" and want to maintain as much quality as possible then choose 100%. of course you will lose a little quality" you mean save as 100% ? If I save as this it will open as 100% ?

no. EXPORT as 100% save as FW png so you can work on the file again if you need to.
