Protected Images - 12/5/2001 12:25:07
Hi all,

Is there a way to have images on a site created with FP2000, hosted off-site, that can not be downloaded by
end-users. Want to set up an electronic album using FlipAlbum 4.0, and if that doesn't work will just use thumbnails with
captions. Nothing special about the images, except that those portrayed don't want their images to
be downloadable for fear of editing and re-posting who knows where.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Mark

Im pretty sure that even off-site graphics can be downloaded with a right-click of the mouse.

I have a JS that disables the right click at home (Im at work now)

If you would like to try it, email me at superhappylucky@attbi.com

Hi Mark

To put it bluntly......anything I see on my PC has been downloaded.
If you don't want anyone to borrow it off the WWW.....do not put it there.

THe java script disabler can be overcome by viewing your sites "source" and then a procedure of copy the image URL into the address bar and go directly the the image on the server.

Cheers from the Outback

You can add a watermark to help protect your images. Some are ones that are visible and would keep people from wanting to use the image, others are digital and embedded into the image file.

Here are some links at Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=watermark+protect+images

and an article at webdev, though this is littered with ads and the link referring to FP is long dead. (FP editor is referring to FP98) http://www.devwebpro.com/2001/0518.html

Adding a copyright notice may help the subjects feel better, even though it does not prevent someone from taking the images. http://66.155.126.102/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3647

Well actually there are a few ways although none of them are popular. You cant use a no right-click script because you can simply turn java off in the browser and that script becomes rendered useless.

The only way to prevent them from being stolen is to:

1) not put them on the web at all
2) put them inside a java applet
3) put them in a flash or swish movie.

Thats about it.

That one works.

Nope, no good - can just do Alt+PrtScrn and I have 'em.
