63 processes is not high. A lot of those are Windows just doing its thing. Remove anything from Startup that you don't need
Start > All Programs > Startup

but what will make a big difference is cleaning up the Registry which will be absolutely crammed full of stuff that's been uninstalled. But be careful, if you delete the wrong things you could kill your computer.

Download JV16 Power Tools demo and run that to clean up.

When you cleaned up your hard drive you must have deleted something DW needs. I suggest you reinstall DW.

You can use msconfig if you know what you're doing.

It depends. You need to look through the DW folder to see if there is a file in there that holds the snippets. If there is then take a copy of it and put it somewhere else before you re-install. I don't have DW on my machine so I can't check.

Apparently there is a folder called Snippets which should contain a lot of js files. Copy the js files and then you can put them back when you have re-installed.

You might find that if you put the CD into the machine that it gives you the option to repair Dreamweaver.

It's not possible for me to tell you. I don't know what you have running on your machine. I have 56 processes running on mine. My partner has 67 running on his. Most of those processes are to do with Windows and if you delete them then Windows will stall or crash.

If you want to know what all the processes are then type the name of the process into Google search and you will find information about it.

Try finding out what is running in the background "not just programs" which is what the startup folder will only tell you when you startup.

START>>RUN>> type in "MSCONFIG"

go to the Startup tab and it will show you what is being executed during bootup.

take a good look and determine what should and shouldn't be there, such as pesky little spyware.

Good catch by Dave :) I was so impressed* by the free version I upgraded for $19.95 USD which covers a 1 year license / 1-3 computers.

* Advanced WindowsCare Pro caught more outright bad or potentially nefarious "stuff" than 4 other diagnostic programs combined!

I think you'll find the clue is in the responses on this thread Isfphopeless:

1. Read responses to thread
2. Google unknown processes as suggested
3. Delete unwanted processes from startup
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 as required.
5. Contact Adobe/DW support re: DW repair/install/whatever - unfortunately our cystal ball's out of action right now

...or if reading thread again hasn't worked, try taking the laptop to someone who knows what they're doing and/or is capable of following instructions.

womble - your plan has one small but fatal flaw "or is capable of following instructions." it depends upon them being able to carry out the instruction to take it to someone who can follow instructions :)
