Photo gallery crashes - 12/27/2007 23:53:54
Hi

I use FP 2003 and have successfully been using the photo gallery (slideshow layout) for 2.5 years on a weekly basis.

A couple of weeks ago, my 'computer fix it man' had to re-install everything on my computer and since then I cannot edit any of my photo galleries.
After adding a picture I click 'OK', as usual the box 'Generating thumbnails for gallery' pops up, and that's where it gets stuck.
Even when I don't edit the gallery and want to get out of it by clicking 'OK' it gets stuck and I have to end the program.

I have tried un-install and re-install to no avail.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks
Sandy

Have you tried Help>Detect and repair?

Not having used the photo gallery that's the best I could come up with. :)

Odds are this is a registry and/or path statement conflict.

You should be able to clean-up/fix with one of these programs:

Advanced Windows Care Pro (free trial) at: www.iobit.com/
Registry Mechanic at: http://www.pctools.com/

Hi

I have tried all these suggestions and have purchased Advanced Windows Care Pro (the free trial will only scan but not repair anything).
The problem is still occurring.

Any other ideas? Everything else in FP is working fine, it's just the photo gallery, which I would like to keep using if possible.

Sandy

(1) Uninstall FrontPage, (2) run Advanced Windows Care Pro, then (3) from a cold boot re-install FrontPage electing the "Custom" option designating a non-default path statement. Your machine should look at this as a completely new installation and, hopefully, all will be well thereafter :)

Hi Larry

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I have tried it and unfortunately, the same problem still presents itself; I can’t edit my photo galleries… not even make a change to text.
I can open up the edit screen of a photogallery and cancel out of it no problem, but clicking on ok freezes it and I have to end the program. Even when I have made no changes.

Can you think of anything else?

Thanks
Sandy

You could try the free FP Cleaner utility , this often solves FP problems.

I had a friend have this problem and the only way he could fix it was to do a total rebuild on the slide show and give it a different name.
Sunday I had a complete page crash on me and was nothing but black in preview and on the live site.
I finally gave up on it, tech support was frustrated because they couldn't help me figure out the problem so I finally did a rebuild, gave it a different name and it was back again.
All the codes were ok...we have no idea why it crashed.

If you want a photo gallery, try:

Shozam

Very customizable.
