This is probably the worst logo of a big or medium-sized company I've seen in my life. I'm telling you, every aspect of design I can think of is wrong in this one.

It's just sad.

Tailslide -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/10/2008 10:53:10)

It is pretty horrible!

jaybee -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/10/2008 10:58:10)

They could have used all different fonts and made it worse. [:D]

BobbyDouglas -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/10/2008 12:05:36)

It is ugly, but if they spaced the "on the frontier" out into separate words, I think it might actually be pretty decent. I do like how the Q was done [8D]

jaybee -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/10/2008 12:36:30)

The spacing on QUEST is all wrong.

Tailslide -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/10/2008 12:44:39)

Apart from using the same font there doesn't appear to be any relation between the words which sort of looks dissonant to me (ooh that's my long word for the week!). As Jaybee says - the spacing of lettering and words looks completely random.

I understand the irony, but I think the Q is the most awful part of the design. It's a wrongly balanced, meaningless, amateurish MS Paint doodle. That together with the spacing and type choice makes the logo probably a worst case of typographical torture I've seen in a long time.

The Q might even somewhat work if the rest of the type was Futura or something, but with that off-spaced Times New Roman it's just mere torture.

its not attractive but 'torture'? perhaps I am just not the sensitive type.

Haha! [:D] Ok, it's very unattractive.

ou812 -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/11/2008 12:01:23)

Whew! By reading the title, I thought someone had found one of the websites I've done![8|]

jaybee -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/11/2008 13:28:14)

You mean it isn't?

Nope. That one is better! [:D]

the site is pretty slick though ;)
questonthefrontier.com

(link edited to website doesn't see where we're coming from)

BobbyDouglas -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/12/2008 12:16:44)

Someone should tell them not to resize the logo via HTML (instead use a correctly sized image), it makes it look worse.

I removed the link so you can't click it. If you link to that company, they can see the referrer page that brought you to the site, which leads them here.

d a v e -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/12/2008 13:01:15)

how about this as a contender then?!

can you even guess what type of company it's for???
(not you though anders;)

mtfm -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/14/2008 11:51:44)

I'm going to guess it's a boomerang company, an airplane/aviation company or a church.

Did I win?

d a v e -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/14/2008 11:54:51)

close :) it's for yle 1, the equivalent of BBC 1 in finland :)

i think it looks like an aviation company too, say boomerang airlines it's pants isn't it!

what do you think anders? anyone else?

dpf -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/14/2008 12:08:06)

well the Nike swish wouldn't seem impressive if unveiled today with no product

I think it would be the wrong kind of logo for an airline company. It would be too obvious, but also a weak logo for such a business.

As I've understood it, the logo you posted is only YLE's screen symbol that they show between programs, not the company logo. I wouldn't praise it as a company logo for many reasons. It's badly balanced, too complex and practically meaningless. It just looks bad, and has no value when taken out of context.

The actual YLE logo looks like this:

I think it would be very impressive. Only if we hadn't gotten sick of the swooshes on those hundreds and hundreds of new IT businesses during the last decade, it would be a very good logo (at least) for a sports company. The real value of the NIKE swoosh is that it remains as an absolutely timeless piece of design.

d a v e -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/15/2008 13:29:30)

anders - afaik that's the old yle logo.

now on yle1 on tv they have the new white boomerang thing happening.

Donkey -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/15/2008 16:07:09)

IMHO the old logo wasn't much of a logo seeing as how it is just text and two lines. Did the chairman's wife design it?

I like the new one, it looks like a bird on the wing. I'd guessed that it was for a yachting company. Although in most applications it would need a strap line.

I obviously watch too many ads between programmes because my first though was "wing", hmmmm....sanitary towels...which give you so much freeeeedom and all that tripe! Now while the principle of "wings" is good, whoever thought that the sort of tripe about flying kites (obviously where the wings bit comes in), and jumping on trampolines, and running around beaches and such like was a good idea in such ads was obviously a bloke. [:D]

I think the logo I linked is very much the current logo of the company (http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yleisradio). But what's the point, really? [:)]

You can say that about any logo! [:D] Come on, I think it's simple, looks professional and works great. But I'm not praising it.

Donkey -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/17/2008 16:26:36)

I'm sure it works but it is too basic to be called a real logo. Anyone who uses text could be said to be infringing their intellectual property rights. I think it is of the standard that I used to acheive when I was a mere lad (many years ago) and all we had to use was the sticky back plastic known as letraset.

d a v e -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/17/2008 16:44:43)

"Come on, I think it's simple, looks professional and works great. But I'm not praising it."

huh? does that make sense anders? :)

Sorry - the TV advert for this large company has been haunting me due to the terrible logo displayed at the end of the commercial. Sure, its not even close to QUEST, but its soooooo amatuerish.

Classic case of an MD somewhere who just 'loves' to play about with that default paint package that came with his home PC.

womble -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/20/2008 4:54:30)

I suppose I'd better not say I quite like it then has I? [:D]

d a v e -> RE: The WORST logo ever (1/20/2008 6:20:42)

i quite like it too - at least the idea :)
