From one who just found this site in the 'For Dummies' book: Someone here has to be faster than Microsoft!

I just loaded Front Page 2003 and began some edits using forms. When I ask for Form Properties, the 'Where to store results' option was grayed out! I have no idea why. Instead, the Send to other option came up with the radio button on.

I was using Front Page 2000 with no problems. To work around the problem, I copied a form created with FP 2000, modified it, then ask for Form Properties. Even though the Send to option was still grayed out, it had the information I needed and I was able to click on Options and complete and save the form. I had to publish it several times until I beat in into submission to get the form to work on the host server.

I've tried removing and installing FP 2003, which did not fix this problem.

Any help in making this work as advertised will be greatly appreciated. If you have Front Page 2003 for Dummies, refer to the graphic on p. 187.

Are you working in a "Frontpage web"? Unistalling might actualy cause more problems - you removed the program and possible (security) updates. Did you check to make sure you system is now up to date? Frontpage Forms might help you out.

I would not copy the code - that can also cause some other problems as well.

Thanks for responding.

I develop my websites locally on my PC, then publish to a server. I'm using IX Webhosting services and have had no problems with Front Page 2000.

I uninstalled then reinstalled FP 2003 on my PC.

BTW, attempts to use From Properties on the host server gives the same problem.

http://www.ixwebhosting.com/ looks like a legitimate company, but in a cursory look at their hosting plans nowhere did I see mention of support for FrontPage Extensions. Reply Forms, which is a FrontPage component, needs FPSE's to run.

I can assure you - FP extensions are turned on.

Forms worked fine with Front Page 2000.
2003 is giving me the problem - all I did was a software upgrade.

FYI - a tech at IX Webhosting could not reproduce the problem! I'm going to try this from a second computer with the same software. If it works, we have a machine installation problem; if it fails, something is amiss with my copy of the software.

I have two top level domains:

jkgraphics.com (motorcycle related)

messiahlutheranlebanonpa.com (our church)

Again, all was well using FP2000. I double checked and FP extensions are turned on for both URLs

Existing forms on my sites do work. I got the new one to work by using an old form, modifying it and beating it to death with 'Publish' until it gave in!

Yeah, you did say that in your initial post. Sorry.

So, even if the "Where to Store Results" field is grayed-out, what does it say? Default should be: private/form_results.csv

Click "Options" on Form Properties and see if the "Send to" field is also grayed-out.

Yes, _private/form_name.txt

I'm just using plain text to save form results, as they get emailed to me. A real enigma, as I had no problems with Front Page 2000. The workaround is to use an old form, the Options button on Form Properties still works, and modify as needed. Save, then keep publishing to the host until the form works!

Good thing I'm retired & have time!

Sorry I did not see a form on either URL given.

But what about the browse button - is it greyed out also? Since you removed FP 2003 - did you check to see if all patches were applied? And you are working locally as well right? Any chance you could give a screen shot of the form properties dialog box?

Given the time you've spent publishing/republishing + this back and forth, it would seem the your best approach is to construct new reply forms in 2003.

Short of that, I suggest you do a "save as", substitute _private/form_name.txt for private/form_results.csv, save & republish & see what you have. The fact that the usual visitor acknowledgement from the reply form Submit function is absent tells me something basic is askew.

Also, bear in mind that your control panel may show FrontPage Extensions are installed but that doesn't mean they're not corrupted, especially if you FTP'd at some point rather than use the proprietary FrontPage publish command.

All of you will love this!

The problem I've reported was on a DIY computer - ABIT motherboard, Intel Dual P4 CPU at the heart.

Today, I tried the same task on my IMB T-30 laptop, and no problem! Form Properties opens as advertised.

There has to be something amiss in my desktop system which will most likely require reloading the entire OS from scratch. Lucky for me, I have all of the disks and know how to do this.

I'm new, so FYI, I have a degree in Chemistry from Franklin & Marshall college in Lancaster, PA. I worked just short of 35 years for J&J in Raritan, NJ - first as a research chemist until HP brought in a computerized lab data system, which I thought was fun. The rest was history; I went from lab work to computer work. We went from the HP2100 (the one on the Apollo space mission) to the 21 MX-E to the A Series until we migrated to a PC based networked system. I was setting up PC's from scratch & interfacing them on the company network.

Our first HP disk based system was prone to crash, so I became very familiar with hardware & troubleshooting; eventually finding the problem myself - overheating. HP had too many components in one rack, so I bolted two racks together & distributed the hardware - end of problem. From there, I learned software & the HP RTE OS. It was a natural progression to go to the PC.

In 2003, J&J made us a buyout offer that I could not refuse, so I took the cash & retired to my native PA near where I went to college. jkgraphics.com is my personal site; messiahlutheranlebanonpa.com is our church, which I try to make a little more professional looking. I'm busy now, as I fix PC's for those who ask, play golf and have had many motorcycle trips.

Thanks to all who responded so quickly and offered tips, but I don't know if we'd have seen this coming if we did not try the same software on a second system. After many computer experiences over 30 years, the answer does not come as a surprise.

If anyone comes to travel in south central PA, or PA Dutch country and wants to say hi, please give me a shout!

Usually that means that the form is not correct in some way.

What happens when you are on a new webpage and go to File - Insert Form and then get into Form Properties?

Grayed out on my desktop, but works on my IBM laptop.

That's why I did a check with IX Webhosting; when a tech there did not reproduce the problem, my suspicion of a hardware/PC related problem was confirmed. So, I tried the same operations on the laptop and did not have any problems.

It should not have anything to do with your hosting company - this is local and a Frontpage Issue.

If it is happening on a new form / page as well, check to see if some of the ideas mentioned in Frontpage is Running Slow.
