I have successfully done it (Google Maps API and point data), but I "stumbled" through it in html mode and would love to find some "how to" instructions if they exist.

Because I'm well known for being a little dim and because around 116 people have looked at your post and not responded I thought that I would drop you a note to ask you to explain to me what you are trying to achieve. In my part of the world a Mash Up comprises sausages, beans and mashed potatoes but I rather suspect that this is not what you're after.
