DebSpecs -> Heads up on recent widespread Google rank drop (1/15/2008 17:32:46)
|
I received this newsletter today about a recent change in Google rankings for old, established sites. Seems many are being booted to #6 from longstanding top 3 positions. Read on: "During the last few weeks, some webmasters noticed that some of their long term position 1 or position 2 rankings in Google suddenly ranked at position 6. The problem affected well established websites with a long history. The dropped web pages had long time rankings for popular search terms, usually on position 1. " The aricle concludes this is probably due to a new filter which penalizes pages when their inbound links almost always have the same exact anchor word which corresponds to the keyword in questions. Personally, i have seen this happen since the new year and have been baffled. But now it all makes sense! And yes, we do keep a daily blog that always uses the same anchor to our website. Hmmm! Here is a link the newsletter pointed to for more info: http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/3535274-1-10.htm Anyone have the same experience? (By the way, business is good regardless, so i'm not going to freak out too much. But i thought this was an interesting and potentially important note to bring up.)
