Email problems with Expression and Godaddy - 1/17/2008 18:48:15
I am a newbie to EW, I recently created an html based website, but could not get the email form to work in html using the front page server extension with Go daddy hosting. Has anyone had that problem? I have a couple of questions? My first would have to do with using an asp.net email form on my html page. Will it work, or will I have to switch the entire page over to asp? My second question is? Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to create an email, that automatically sends back a html based newsletter once the user enters their name, and email address. ex. you put in your name and email address in the form provide on my site, and then inside your email address you receive affiliate information etc.. etc. I have been working on this issue for a few days now, but couldn't figure it so I decided to ask the heavy hitters of Expression Web.

GoDaddy might have auto-responders. A lot of newsletter scripts have them as well. Search GoDaddy's support page for auto-responders to see if they have them / are supported. Or check out hotscripts - there are a few .NET newsletter scripts there and even more ASP ones.

GoDaddy is neither well recommended nor well versed in the arcane art of providing reliable FPS Extensions to their shared hosting customers. That being said they are getting better and, have made big strides towards catering to their FP and EW hosting base. I use GD's shared hosting for many sites and also use FP Forms for email/comtact info. on my web pages. Usually a simple re-install of the FP Extensions from your Hosting Control Panel at GD takes care of the issue - if your form is not working - or, re-install and THEN re-publish your Form Pages - after the re-install has completed. Or, Uninstall - Re-Install and Re-Publish. One of those 3 options above has always resolved my issue. If you are still having trouble with you FP Forms then you needs to recode your Form - i.e. create a new .htm page and start afresh. HTH.

If your Forms still refuse to work for you then, may I suggest, that if you haven't already been there, you go to the 2 EW newsgroups and post: microsoft.public.expression.discussion micrsoft.public.expression.webdesigner The depth of knowledge (Re: EW & FP), helpfulness and resolutions supplied on these newsgroups is - second to none. If you can't get a straight answer here then, I'd be surprised. That being said though, GoDaddy is not always the easiest to deal with as they are not always forthcoming about the accuracy of their technical setups!! As an aside, this last line is for everyone ... purchase your Domain Names ONLY at GoDaddy (Preferably through all the links and Banners on the OutFront Forum :)). Please host your websites elsewhere - it'll save the world a lot of unnecessary trouble. Let me repeat that for everyone: Please seriously consider hosting your websites elsewhere other than GoDaddy. Anyways good luck in the newsgroups - try the webdesigner one - lots of good folks there.
