Sending form results to printer - 1/17/2008 22:53:19
I'm not sure this is even possible, but here it goes. I'm using FrontPage 2003. I want to create a form in which the submitted results are sent to MY printer as well as the database.
I can't find a way to do this ANYWHERE and I'm getting frustrated with the search. Is this even possible?

the only ways I can think of involve your computer being set up to print what a web page tells it to no questions asked when told to, but every computer I have ever worked with prompts you before it prints anything (print setup), i think it may be 'possible' but would probably require creating an actual .exe program to check for new submissions and print them out not just a web page...

ok..this is what im trying to do -
i created a website for a local bar/grill. now they want to be able to accept carry out orders online.
my theory (as misguided as it may be):
create a form on the website to take the order - setup a networkable printer at the bar (via ethernet)
send submitted form info directly to the networked printer (either using IP address or MAC address) as well as to a database to track order stats
there are companies that offer this service but i want to try to do it myself...any theories or ideas will be helpful because im running out of ways to google it

You can e-mail the results to a specific e-mail address used for that form only, then use a program that checks a pop3 account every X minutes, and prints out all emails.
One of our clients uses this for orders, it works like a charm :)
You may be able to find a slimmed down version for free somewhere, dunno. Search for "print pop3 email"

I'm not sure if you can do an e-mail as well as a database (I've never messed with FP and databases), however, there are tricks to get a FP form to submit to 2 e-mail addresses, so you may need to do that.

in retrospect i only need the info to be sent to the one email address and then the printer...i'll be able to track sales from the emails seeing as they're date and time stamped
now i need to look into a way to receive the online orders using a form of some kind....my little brain is starting to hurt so ill start on that task tomorrow
if anyone has a website that can take online orders i would appreciate any advice you could offer

Nice one Larry. The one I was thinking about (but didn't quite remember the specifics), used some sort of html editing within frontpage, as well as multiple forms. The page you linked to is a much easier to implement way.

Some POP3 e-mail accounts are setup to allow only 1 user to be accessing the POP3 server. So in your case, you may be better off with the forwarding method, even though it is an extra e-mail address, it is still a better way to approach the problem.
Even if that issue of POP3 access did not exist, I still think it is much better laid out with a dedicated e-mail account that the printer checks. I think we're up to around 40 different e-mail accounts (10 of them are for the same account, but just a different variation of the spelling).
