<span lang="en-us"> is EVERYWHERE! - 1/17/2008 23:02:21
I have a site that I've been running for nearly three years. Bought it from another forum and after letting it languish for a while, thought it might be a nice little project to dust off.

The site was built with FrontPage and there are <span lang="en-us"> </span> tags throughout the site... middle of a sentence, middle of a word... I MEAN EVERYWHERE.

Shy of doing a FIND and then editting each instance on the 300+ pages, is there a nice easy way to remove these extra tags?

Dave,

I was thinking of that, but if I use a valid span tag elsewhere, I am not going to be able to delete the "</span>" tag without messing up the entire site.

Any other ideas?

It should work for the entire phrase "<span lang="en-us"> </span>" without deleting all </span>s I'd have thought.

Tailslide,

What I have is this:

<p>This is the w<span lang="en-us">eb site</span> in question.

So I can replace all <span lang="en-us">, but it will leave the </span> tag. I can't search by the complete tag as it splits a number of words in the text.

copy a bit from one of the pages with that kind of span in and some normal stuff around it too, and put a normal span in there around something and then set the replace up like in the attached BUT FOR THIS TEST FILE ONLY and see how it works. should be fine

when it works how you want, back up the site and then use the replace on it all

i have fp 2003 and it works in that. you didn't say what you're using?!

What dave posted is probably the best way to do it. You can also do it via regex, but it is much more complex.
