Starhugger -> RE: DIVs are NOT DIVine!! (grrr) (1/23/2008 14:53:32)

Tail, thank you so much! quote:
Oh and I've just checked - in the example given above - adding width:100% to the bookrow div will sort the issue so you can remove the *html {height:1%} thing altogether! Thanks for checking back about this. quote:
More about Conditional Comments here: http://www.quirksmode.org/css/condcom.html Thanks! That's very helpful. quote:
Regarding DOCTYPES - well it's sort of the other way around. You decide what sort of markup you want to use and then add in the appropriate DOCTYPE. But that's just the thing -- I've never found a completely clear explanation or formula to figure out which is the appropriate DOCTYPE. I've seen some good sites/pages about it but it always leaves me with more questions. It would be so nice if someone came up with a program that would scan your code and figure out which is the appropriate DOCTYPE. (I know: whine, whine whine...) [:(]
body,div,dl,dt,dd,ul,ol,li,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,pre,form,fieldset,input,p,blockquote,th,td {margin:0; padding:0;}
h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,p,pre,blockquote,ol,dl,address {margin:1em 0;}
li, dd, blockquote {margin-left:1em;}
html, body, fieldset {font:100.1%/120% Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
input, select, textarea {font-size:100.1%;}
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {font-size:100%;}
form label{cursor:pointer;}
fieldset, img{border:none;}
table{border-collapse:collapse; border-spacing:0;} Hmmm... That might explain why I always seem to get a space at the top of the window in IE7 (and possibly other versions). Great idea. Why do you use 100.1% for some of them though? And what is meant by html, body, fieldset being set to 100.1%/120%? Thanks again! SH
