Winxmaster -> How do I create a robots.txt file? (1/23/2008 19:07:58)
I need some help understanding just how to place a robots.txt file inside a web site that I am creating using Frontpage 2002.
I was told to use this method to create the file:
"Simply create a text document and save the new document as robots.txt. Most computers will allow you to create a text document using notepad.
*Right click on your desktop *Choose new *Choose text document *Open the document you just created *Insert instructions to robots *Click on save as *Save document as robots.txt"
Well this is where I get confused. When it tells you to "Save document as robots.txt" how do I "save" it inside the root directory of the web that I am working on in Frontpage 2002? Because right now I'm in notepad and not in Frontpage 2002.
Do I create a new "blank page" in my website and copy it from notepad and paste it on to that page and then name that page robots.txt?
I'm sure that this is a very dense question with a very simple answer but no matter where I look I can't find that simple answer.
Any step-by-step answer for dummies will be appreciated (and needed).
Thank You!

If you saved the file on your desktop, Copy it. Now go to your FP web highlight the top most folder and right click and choose Paste. This will import the folder into your website
It is no different than placing an image that you have somewhere else on your computer but want it inside your webpage
