Something is adding extra lines to my code - 1/30/2008 18:28:42
I have been having a problem for a while with many of my websites and I have now figured out that it might be related to SwishMax. I have been posting in a SwishMax forum and from eveything I/they can determine it seems to be coming from FrontPage - not SwishMax. Maybe some sort of conflict between them???
I use FrontPage2003 to create my sites and I have a Swishmax top banner on many of the pages. For quite some time now I have been having a recurring problem - a page will start loading EXTREMELY slow and then sometimes stop being able to load at all. I have found that what has happened is - in the code there are up to 100,000 extra blank lines (in the case of the page today - there were just over 39,000 blank lines). The blank lines ALWAYS occur between this area in the code:

Today when I saw this, I deleted all of the lines and clicked save. That is when I noticed that as soon as I clicked "save" several more blank lines will appear. If I don't make a change and click save - nothing happens, but ANY change (just delete one line or add a backspace to a blank line) and hitting save - causes more blank lines to be added. Obvioulsy what is hapening is every time I visit a page and make any changes - there are extra lines being added to the code. Nothing shows in the website - just the extra blank lines of code. Several times I have had to completely recreate a page and delete the original page because there were so many blank lines, the page would not even open - the program will just crash after 5 minutes or so of trying to get the page to open.
I have over 30 active websites, all created with Frontpage 2003 and many with added Swishmax. Only the sites which contain Swishmax are having this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

It happens intermittently to different sites. You cannot see anything in the site itself; it looks perfectly fine. Once the lines start getting added you can see extra space in the code, but that is all.

You have a few warnings on the Firefox Web Developer toolbar and no DocType. I suggest validating your code and getting rid of the deprecated tags like <noembed>. Otherwise I can't see why the extra lines are forming, unless you are using a Theme. However as you say it doesn't affect the look of the page so I wouldn't sweat too much if you are not used to validating your code.
