FrontPage Discussion Forum - 1/31/2008 17:19:40
I searched the site for a 'real' FrontPage plugin or purchasable discussion forum software package... my web server does not have SharePoint services nor provide them... and the discussion elements in FP2003 are bad at best! Also have Expression but the core site is built in FP2003 and do not want to reinvent the wheel... Want security and to be able to add or assign moderators but a fully functioning FP compliant piece and not some patched together Apache Server bulletin board software. It appears there are others that want the same but what is the product reccomendation list? Something EASY to install and maintain...Thanks!

TTR, It seems funny that there is not a true FrontPage Forum software...??? It is a BIG hole that software developers needed to fill and maybe FrontPage would have been more successful... I need a forum package but do not want to run two different servers... one FP Compliant / MS - SQL and another as a UNIX platform... with MySQL... For me never the two shall meet! What is the problem in the development community... look at Joomla and Firebird... small community but nice looking product that is open source... Why do I have to create ASP Pages (my web host limits me to 5) and I can only have MS-SQL or MySQL as a server option and if I chose MySQL then I cannot use FrontPage! There must be something out there or a new business should start up and shake Microsoft up... they are simply confusing and not assisting users of late. More interested in the buck than the customer! FP is DEAD but the following it has is reluctant to go to Expression! Any ideas???

Problem is that FP can't even build a normal web page to an acceptable standard without lots of double-checking and general smacking around from the designer so trusting it to build a forum that actually works properly for everyone is extremely unlikely. Especially as there are loads of fully-functioned forums already out there. The most famous are probably PHP based ones - but there are ASP-based ones like you'd get here: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?p=567863#post567863 (sorry for publishing a link to another forum - it just looked useful!).

It appears to be the best of a bad situation...been using FP since initial Beta testing and know how to use FP... I'll share the results shortly... Just a few minor fixes in FP and it would have been a GREAT product.
