hyperlink to a specific page within framespage? - 2/2/2008 1:09:24
I could swear I had this working once using bookmarks, but can't replicate it...

I want to link each of the graphics on my index page http://www.intuitiveportraiture.com to my gallery page - which is a framespage - but would prefer that their own individual page would show up within the framespage (gallery.htm) immediately (i.e. rather than the initial _main page (jennysfloat.htm))

I think viewers would expect the graphics on the front page to link to somewhere? But, if I can't get them to operate as above, it seems silly to have each of the three graphics directing them to the same identical-looking Gallery page. I thought about doing a mouse-over swap that would show titles/information pertaining to each picture 'underneath'. Opinions?

if i understand correctly then you would have to make 3 framesets to link to each with the correct frame loaded like Totems for example.

e.g. when you click on the totems graphic on the front page you load a frameset that contains the totems frame. likewise for toymaker, link the graphic from the front page to another frameset that contains the toymaker frame.

another reason not to use frames ;)

Dave is right, you would have to make the extra frameset pages because if you don't and someone bookmarks the standalone image page they will have no way of getting back to your site later on - and they may not even know to use the back button while they are on site. That's why we don't use frames any more, they are not user friendly.

Not sure how you were able to do this, but your index page isn't part of the frames set.

AFAIK, the only solution is to either rebuild the site incorporating the index page into the frames set or use a contempory approach such as CSS or let FrontPage help you using >>File >>New >>Web Package Solutions >>General, or purchase one of the hundreds of templates offered for FrontPage (Google for these).

what a great forum! 3 replies in such short order. Thanks for the directions. I'll get right on it!

I understood that frames would be problematic, but thought that it would be a convenient format for expanding my gallery when I post new portraits. I'm sure I'll change it once I figure a replacement.
