LewisLayne -> Can I do these in EW? (2/7/2008 12:25:06)
I made a couple of very basic websites in the past with Front Page. Took some time off. Now I'm ready to make 3 websites and I'm going to try to do it with Expression Web.
These are some thigns I want to do on my first site and I don't know the right terminology or where to look to make these happen. Any help is greatly appreciated.
1) I would like to give users the option to register and be a member. And I would like for them to be able to have a member profile with information and/or pictures they would like to share.
2) I will be publishing interviews and articles and would like for people to be able to leave feedback or comments on them. I would like for it to be instantaneous like when you leave feedback or review on Amazon.com or something, if possible.
3) I would like to have a classifieds area where people can enter their info and their classified ad and contact info appear right away and not have to be sent to me in an email and then when I get back to the computer publish it.

Well, I accidently sent the message before I was done. Sorry.
For the member profiles, I'd like for their to be a page for users to view all the member profiles.
I'd like for users to be able to add photos or whatnot to the photo gallery.
I'd also like for people to be able to rate on a scale or give a "thumbs up" to certain businesses or whatnot that we are featuring.
Basically, I need a lot of user functions. Is this way too much to ask? Especially for a new-EW user?
Thanks so much!!! Shannon

Chances are, yes it is too much. However, there are pre-built scripts available. Have you checked out hotscripts? They have a number of PHP, ASP, .NET scripts that you can choose from.
However, if you do not understand a server side language (ASP, .NET, PHP), you will have a very difficult time creating one from scratch

Thanks, Corey, my fellow Texan.
I started looking at the hotscipts you suggested and there are a ton! Thanks so much. Maybe you could help me with the right terms for me to look for. I'm completely new to asp and net and don't know the right words for what I want. I'm pretty good about banging my head against something long enough to figure it out so I'll stick with it until I do. I don't mean from scratch, though! LOL What search words do I use for the profiles and member areas, comments left on articles area and that stuff? What kinds of scripts am I looking for?
Thanks again!! Shannon

Well there are a number of news publishing scripts. You might be able to find one that will expand on the user registration, but most support users leaving responses
