Include page not saving properly - 2/9/2008 2:53:02
I have been using FP2000 Include pages for many years successfully in most of my websites, but now (using Vista Home Premium) I have a problem with one of my sites: www.norrish.co.nz I cannot save any changes to my Include page www.norrish.co.nz/menu.html on my PC, when I try to save the changes nothing happens and the curser continues to flash, so after a while I have to cancel the changes to back out of the page and have to close FP and restart it to do any further work, then open it and I find that the changes have been saved after all. Then I can upload the changes to the server, when I do so it takes very long (10 mins) for all changes to be processed, this is only the case when I have updated an Include page though, it almost looks like that the FP is updating all pages that have the Include page included, I thought that only the include page was updated. This may have something to do with the number of pages I use this Include page in, approx 100. Is there perhaps a maximum of pages for Include ? Can anybody help me with this annoying and time consuming problem, please ? Thanks, Jim, New Zealand

but now (using Vista Home Premium) I have a problem Corey, Couldn't this be the problem? Some discussion here in the recent past about FP/Vista compatiblity issues wihout being resolved one way or the other.

Thanks, I have tried your suggestions but didn't find any .web pages to delete. The problem I have is only for that particular site and the menu Include, because its included in all pages, for that site I use many other include pages for certain pages only, they don't have the problem, so I don't think its Vista related Regards, Jim

Then I can upload the changes to the server "Upload"? If you're FTPing instead of publishing, this could be your problem.

Frontpage 2003 has some problems with Vista, and I would suspect 2002 / 2000 even more issues. You can use FTP if you are using Frontpage Includes actually since Frontpage includes are supported via Frontpage and not FPSE. Were you able to use the FP Cleaner as well? You might consider downloading the trial version of Expression Web to see if that solves the problem. Expression Web will still support the Frontpage Includes for now. And then possibly consider using some type of server side includes since FP 2000 has a couple of more years for "support". And make sure that the included page has a <html>, <head>, and <body>

Yes I Publish the site and do not use FTP. I do have a full copy of Expression web but I haven't actually used it yet and I don't want to create more problems if I do something wrong. I still think the problem has something to do with the high number of pages (100) the menu is Included. I do not have the problem in any of my other sites that all use at least a menu as an Include page. Jim

I have some sites that have over 100 pages with FP includes and they seem to work OK. "Knocks on wood"
