password entry - 2/11/2008 15:21:42
3 years ago, my father, who was a brilliant web designer, passed away. He had gotten sick with cancer and while undergoing treatment, he began to teach me to do daily updates and how to add new products to all of his sites and how to use Dreamweaver. After he passed away, his clients asked me to carry on with his work. I have had a crash course, so to speak, in web design. Recently, one of my sites has developed a problem. It is a wholesale carpet site that our salesmen use to sell our carpet. It has no prices for the general public to see. There is a dealer entry page that requires a password to enter. Once you enter your password, you can view the price lists. It has quit working...for some strange reason. I am sure it is something that I have done or not done. I just don't know where to begin to find the problem. There is a _vti_cnf file, so I am assuming my dad was using some frontpage techniques and I am clueless about them. Suspecting maybe the problems lies therein...Can anyone offer any suggestions or help me in anyway?
Thanks.

We would need to know a bit more information.

If it is Frontpage Server Extensions handling the login - a repair of the FPSE might do the trick (this usually can be found in the web hosting control panel). If it is FPSE handling this, FTP can corrupt the FPSE.

Do any of your file names end with an asp, php, aspx (or something other than html / htm)? This would help narrow the problem a bit

No, only htm. We didn't have this problem until yahoo migrated my account to a new server a couple of months ago. My files ended with shtml. After the migration, when you went to, for instance, mozilla to browse my site, it wouldn't open the shtml files. It prompted to save to disk. So, I went and re-named the files to htm and re-loaded the files. Now all the links work fine. Except for the dealer entry password prompt. When you clicked on, "enter password here" it went straight to the price list rather than the box where you would enter the password....does this help any?
Thanks so much for your help.
Kaye
