Anyone running external drive that is Dynamic? - 2/26/2008 20:00:10
I have a Dynamic drive that was attached to my raid controller. When I take it out of the raid controller, and connect it directly to the motherboard, it shows up as Dynamic, and XP Pro wants me to convert it to Basic (which formats all the data on it). Any idea if this dynamic drive will work inside an external enclosure? Not sure if the fact it is dynamic or basic has any determination on if it will work externally or not. You can find out if your drive is dynamic or basic if you look within Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management

A dynamic drive cannot be partitioned unless it's converted, nor can it be imaged, if that's any use to you.
