dpf -> RE: Filemaker, MySQL and huh? (3/4/2008 6:46:10)

I would be concerned about him saying he wants FP cause he wants to update it himself. sounds like he envisions having the db on his machine and updating it. once you put the db on the web, it gets updates from web (isnt that the whole point?) to do what he suggests means download a copy, modify it and then upload - danger danger....while it is in his possession, what if someone updates the db on the web? now the copies are different and when he uploads his, it will overwrite and lose that data- make sense? you put a db on the seb for a reason - usually to update it via the pages/forms. it is common to also make private admin pages where the admin can update while it is on the web not downloaded. in doing that, he wouldnt be updating it via his normal forms and comfort zone. the demand that it be built in DW is also hinting at something but im not sure what. I am a 100% DW fan but to the person contracting to build a site, the results and not the tool should be an issue. have a long chat and find out WHY he is so adamant about those choices. I dont know FP but seems you would be better off with more main stream like SQL or MySQL FWIW
