shtml/include equivalent for XML - 3/5/2008 16:25:25
Hi,

on some of my sites I use shtml to include content from other pages.
I'm pretty new to xml, but I was wondering if there is a way to accomplish something similar with xml?

The idea would be to automatically include certain html pages in an xml page, so when something changes on the html page it updates the xml page.

Can this be done?

Thanks you
Tailslide

What end purpose are you using XML for? Feeds or something similar?

Hi Tailslide,
thanks for replying :)

Yep, the idea is to include parts of a standard html page into a xml feed, so when something on the html pages changes it automatically updates the xml feed. Can this be done?

Thank you

I'm no expert on this (hopefully someone who knows a lot more than me will come along) - I've tended to use feeds with WordPress so much of the hard work is done for you.

Is this article of any use?

It looks like you need the content in a DB to be able to easily hook the feed into the information as it changes.

I've done more research over the last few hours and it seems that Xinclude could be a way to do it. But I couldn't find any more documentation on that so far.

Has anybody ever used Xinclude in an RSS feed; ie is it possible to use it?

Thank you in advance

Check with the guys and gals over at International Web Developers Network. I have never used includes of any type in an XML file.
