pictures and text missing - 3/14/2008 3:55:33
I have been using microsoft front page to design our website, however i have just added a page which includes approx 20 pictures on thumbnails and when u scroll over the picture the text appears of what the picture is related to.

However this may not be a microsoft issue but when i publish it , on my pc I have firefox internet explorer I can not see the roll over text but see all the pictures but on other pc's which have been normal internet explorer there are missing 2 or 3 pictures and they are not the same pictures. But they can see the roll over text.

This is very confusing and frustrating and would appreciate and help or advice.

Regards
Paul

Firefox is a totally different browser to internet explorer (much better too) and thankfully IE is becoming less and less "normal" as time goes on.

It's difficult to diagnose without seeing - can you give us a link to the page and we'll have a look for you.

Does it work with Opera? (another browser)

Does it work with IE7 and IE6?

FrontPage, if left to it's own auspices can produce webpages that only work as intended with other MS products (such as IE). This may be what's happening or it may just be a simple coding error that's easily corrected.

The reason you get no tooltip on mouseover in Firefox is because you're using alt= to do it. That only works in IE and it's incorrect. MS have been panned for using that way and I believe that IE8 will have fixed it.

Alt is for an alternative picture description and is meant for when images are turned off for any reason. It was never meant to pop up info.

Tooltips are set up by using title=

quote:

The requested URL /images/beige_marble.jpg was not found on this server.

As to your images. They are all in differently named folders. Some have a file type of .jpg other .JPG those are treated as two completely different names fred.jpg and fred.JPG will not return the same image. Check all your file names and folder names.

I would suggest you have a folder called images and then within that have more folders called slate, marble etc. Stick to consistent naming conventions.

Thank you very much for your reply, the alt problem I have solved with your help and the scroll over is now working.

However the problem with the pictures is still occuring. I have put all the files in one folder under images. The page that I am lookin at is QUARTZ. All images are in the lower case jpg. At the moment I am only worried about the quartz page

When I use firefox all imagies appear. When I use internet explorer 2 maybe 3 pictures are missing.
I have just loaded the page 4 times and on all 4 occasions 2 different pictures were missing. Its never the same picture.

Have you got any more advice on what is causing the problem

regards

paul

IE 7 renders Quartz Stone Images fine as well.

Clear you cache, reboot, try again. Also, recalculate hyperlinks and look at your site, if possible, on another computer.
