Hi, I've been designing what I call 'web presence' sites for a few years now, but have been asked for the first time for a forum or chat area. Is this a very complicated area and is there a tool in the new version of Dreamweaver, I'm still on verysion 4 :). I'd really appreciate anyone's advice or experience in this area. Many thanks.

Look at SMF forums or PunBB (which is cleaner but less features) or for something really simple - Vanilla.

Can't beat SMF for forum software IMHO. For chatrooms, there's plenty of chat scripts out there - just depends what features you're wanting. I've just started using AddonChat on one of my forums after first using it on another forum I'm a member of, and I love it. It's a hosted chat service, so you don't have to worry about installing any complicated software, plus it integrates with a number of third party applications.

Thanks, obviously way out of my depth here! I think it's something I'm going to have to have a play around with and experiment before offering to clients?!? Thanks for your advice and womble the AddonChat looks pretty user friendly so I think I'll start there. Many thanks again.
