kenk -> Trying to add a powerpoint slide show to frontpage web (3/18/2008 16:13:45)

I have had a website up and running for a couple of years. It uses Frontpage and Access both 2003. There are picture galleries, etc and all works well. Lately I have been trying to add a couple of PowerPoint 2003 slide shows to the site but can not get them to work properly.

Both work well on my hard drive and when put on CDs. I published them to the hard drive and activated animation controls, etc and then imported them into the website. One will not open at all. The other opens but the back ground color is different, some of the slides are there with the graphics but not the pictures and the sound does not work at all.

I also published to a copy of the site on my local server.......slide shows work there..... and then publish from the local site to the remote site on the internet. Same results...one will not open and the other opens but not properly.

Any ideas will be appreciated...........

This method was tried also and while it works great on my development site on my local server when I import the .ppt show to the on line active site and add the proper link the message says it cannot open the page. I have tried importing the .pps show as well as publishing the show on the hard drive and then omporting the _files folder. The last method works partially on the complicated show but the simple one will not open???

In as much as all methods work on the local server might there be something wrong on the server of the host of the live site? The host is a well known compny that has been around for quite some time.

To add a downloadable Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation to your Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Web site

Are you trying to actually run the presentation on your site? Methinks you can't do that without a specialist bit of kit. IE7 and onwards won't render it properly anyway. Firefox and co will just hold their hands up and scream UNCLE!

It works on your machine because you have Office installed on there. It would only run on your host if they had Office installed and executable. Very few do.

There is a thread on here somewhere with a link to software but it's quite old. I have no idea whether it all still works with the latest browsers.

Here it is

You could always convert it to Flash.

I still have to have Powerpoint presentations on one site and saving them as html in PP first makes all the difference. ( but produces cr*p code.) These references are old but they still work for me in IE7, FF, Safari and Opera; the latter after a fashion.

I wish that Powerpoint would die a fast death. [:@]

PS. I also offer the presentations as zip files for download.

After trying all of the suggestions in addition to others that I had found, the method that worked best for me was FlashSpring....both of my current shows work well...one is more complex with animation and music, the other is a simple slide show and both work great. Thanks for all the help.

FlashSpring
is now called iSpring. Did you use their free version?

Yes, I realize the name change but my memory hasn't caught up yet...yes I saw and downloaded the free version and it is working great! Thanks again for the help.....still not certain why the other methods did not work. Later this year I will begin to do my own hosting and at that time will try again with the others.....
