RE: My Site's disappeared from google overnight?? - 3/26/2008 11:16:27
SEO does come in for ALT text - and any other good practice in web design. The thing is, you just can't stuff tags with your favorite keywords or you may raise flags. When I start any SEO campaign, I fill every tag with appropriate tags. This means that submit images or buy-it-now images have alt tags, but they say what they should - 'buy now' or 'submit' for example. Once the site is well indexed and the rankings are stable and recorded I will either add or remove keywords from various tags (I also do other things). Then, I wait 2 months to see how things shake out. Depending on what happens I will adjust and test again. Also, there is no such thing as search engine spam. I also rarely see webmasters try and fool the search engines. I think that is more web myth than fact nowadays. Fooling the SEs only drives the wrong traffic. What people do try is to get their site to rank above their competition. If keyword stuffing (or dup content sites) work - GREAT! It's just smart business - not spam. You can't spam when your not in control... it's just poor algorithms and lazy webmasters at this point.

Do you ever use title tags? (in image links I mean) Mozilla Firefox and the alt Attribute If you use the alt attribute in Firefox on images and image maps the text will not show on mouse-over as in other browsers. Firefox uses the alt attribute the way it's meant to be used, like an alternative text if the image won't load, not as a mouse-over text. Firefox does support mouse-over comments on images or image maps if you use a title attribute in the <img> tag. E.g. <img src="image.gif" alt="bla" title="bla bla bla" Now we know....
