bernieboy31 -> error 550 to hotmail accounts (3/20/2008 19:20:12)

Gurus,

Up to last week-end I have been happily using a CDO script to send emails from my web site to ALL domains.
From around Sun/Mon 16th/17th Mar any emails to hotmail accounts have been "bounced" with
-- quote --
Final-Recipient: rfc822;"addressee"@hotmail.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.5.0
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. blah blah blah
--Unquote --

Messages to other domains don't seem to have the same problem so the scripted ("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserver") ip address must be OK [I assume??].

I have taken this up with my hosting company and they say that they have raised it with hotmail and are awaiting a response. Are they giving me a BS statement and is there an easy fix?

Any bright ideas appreciated.

TIA
Cheers
Bernie

Its not a script problem, but it may be a policy change at hotmail or a blacklisting of your email address

Check out "senders" or "isp's" for relevant information

This could be a number of things, but the most common is a failure of an spf record or a failure of connection check (most commonly this fails due to a reverse dns lookup failure)

If the server is behind a firewall and the firewall uses nat, in some cases the firewall will need to be configured with a one-to-one nat instead of dynamic nat or this could cause the reverse lookup to fail because it could possibly be tagging the mail with the private ip.
