Hi all...

I need a replay to my school website assignment. The main page is the most important page: Do you think it is attractive for you as a user?

The website is not complete, it is under construction.
This is the URL:

Thanks to your response...

Hi

It depends on what sort of criteria were set for the assignment - if it's just literally to create a first web page for a school project then it's not bad at all.

I think that red writing on a blue background is quite hard to read - especially in serif fonts. Maybe change the fonts to a sans-serif font like Verdana?

The text in the slideshow that says "Buy Now" (or something like that) is a bit squished - I'd re-do that so that it's exactly the size you need - it'll look clearer.

For stricter criteria (for instance if you mean university rather than school or if this is a web design course) - If you need it to work well on different browsers then you'll need to look at it a little closer as it doesn't look the same in non-IE browers. The width of the page seems a bit arbitrary. Also there are a lot of coding errors in there that should be fixed.

Thank you Tailslide for your comments...

This assignment is for a college level (E-commerce course). In this level of the course we are intresting only in the main page and whether it is attractive for the user or not.
I will take your comments in my plan when I change the view next time..

Thanks again

Hello :D

First look, I definitely know what the site is for/about which is a good thing. But, I found it difficult to stay focused on the main body of text as (like Tailslide said) it doesn't stand out from the background all that well, so I was drawn towards the brighter things like the prices and the bright green text below it. Also being a little bit OCD myself, the navigation at the top sitting so close to the side while everything was so spaced out irked me a little bit, but that may just be me.

and your title section, the two <tr bgcolor="02021e"> tags need to be <tr bgcolor="#02021e"> or the colour ( <-- my spell checker did that ) won't show in non IE browsers.

Hope that helps

I agree with the previous posters about the main text it's very hard to read and whilst it may look attractive I won't stay on that site very long if I have to peer at it hard to make it out. The same can be said for the text on your slideshow where the text is jaggy and some of the lightbox images where the text merges into background colours so that it's almost invisible.

I would also indent the main body so that it is not so hard up to the left side of the page, this will lead the eye down and across giving the page some rhythm and incidentally allow the navigation to be more obvious.

also blue is a strange colour for a natural (food) product - something more neutral to show of the fruit baskets would be better.

the red apple looks strange, floating in a sea of black... how about an apple with a bite out of it?!

and the apple is grossly distorted in my browser. dave is correct- black is a poor background for an apple.

what I do like about your site is that it is for a local business and ou describe where it is - so important on the web.

jaybee -> RE: School assignment (3/29/2008 17:21:22)

The apple is completely squashed and would put me right off, as does the blue background. There is a reason retaurant menus are never blue and their plates are never blue, blue puts you off food.

You'd be better off with a green background and please no red lettering on anything other than a white background. That is web No-No #1.

I had a quick play with the css and produced this. I'd be much more likely to buy from this page.

And...fix the horizontal scroll problem on 800 res monitors.
