Forms and Includes Stopped Working - 3/29/2008 4:52:33
Having had forms and includes running smoothly for the last 8 years they've suddenly stopped working & my hosting company seems to think there's no problem at their end. Part 1: The problem started a few weeks ago when all mail arriving via forms stopped. The forms still seemed to be working okay but after a few days they stopped working and a Front Page error message appeared. The hosting company claimed to have checked it out and found no problem. In the end I had to remove forms and replace them with a straightforward email address. Part 2: In the last few days a new problem has arisen. When I edit an include it saves correctly in Front Page. However, when I look at the live version in my browser the include is unchanged. This is most odd as the page is perfect in FP but is different in the live version. I am not new to the use of forms and includes. In fact I've been using them successfully for several years without any problems. Unfortunately, the support at my hosting company is practically non-existent since the ownership changed so I'm not getting any help from them. Could anyone please suggest what the problem is likely to be. Would issues with the server extensions be likely to explain these problems? Thanks

Well the forms are ran by Frontpage Server Extensions (FPSE) so that might be the problem there. With the FP include, that is handled by FrontPage and any / all page(s) with the included content needs to be published. And if you are using IE, try hitting CNTL-F5 to grab a "fresh" copy from the server.

Thanks for your thoughts. Regarding the includes ... refreshing the page is not the issue. The includes have saved correctly but do not appear in the live version (even after Control + F5)

Tell them again to check the FPSE (Frontpage Server Extensions). Tell them to make sure the FPSE Mail Forms are added too. It seems to be an extra step. Many techs aren't familiar with FP; keep hounding them. Maybe they moved you to another server or did some upgrade which now requires the FPSE to be reinstalled.

Since the FrontPage Page Include is a FrontPage issue - have you tried cleaning the cache and using the 95isalive utility?
